TORQUE MANAGEMENT

Some vehicle manufacturers have torque limiting software embedded in the factory  ECU map. When fitting larger aftermarket turbos and other power adding devices, the factory set torque limiter becomes a barrier to unleashing the planned power and torque from the modifications.

Eurotune are able to turn this function off in the ECU so that the benefits from the fitted aftermarket parts can be realised. If the planned power gains are significant then thought needs to be given to the transmission and gearbox driveline suitability i.e. valve body, auto clutch pack, manual clutch etc.

For reliability and drivability it’s all about matching the driveline components to the new power and torque goals. Call us today, tell us about your aspirations and we’ll help create a solution.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER – (CAT)

Catalytic converters (also referred to as ‘cats’) have been widely used in vehicle production for over 50 years, and are designed to reduce the emissions produced by your car. Catalytic converters change harmful substances in a car’s exhaust gasses, into less harmful substances like carbon dioxide and water vapor by means of chemical reactions.

These Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) units are routinely paired with additional exhaust treatment technologies such as Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) to trap soot and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) which use injections of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) like AdBlue urea solution to remove NOx.

If you’re experiencing problems or have the CAT light showing on your dash; Eurotune have Catalytic Converter solutions starting from just $395+GST. Call us today

ADBLUE

AdBlue is a chemical liquid used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) on diesel vehicles in order to reduce NOx levels. The AdBlue fluid (urea and demineralized water) is injected into the exhaust system just before the SCR catalyst. The introduction of AdBlue into the exhaust gasses generates a chemical reaction inside the SCR Cat which results in NOx being converted into Nitrogen and Water Vapor. AdBlue was introduced by vehicle manufacturers in order to hit the stringent emission targets set out by governmental bodies. AdBlue is sometimes referred to as DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid).

The AdBlue and SCR system is a relatively complex system with an array of electronic sensors, modules and pumps, these systems can fail and can be expensive to maintain. A vehicle which is used on a regular basis will consume a large amount of AdBlue and the tank will need to be refilled on a regular basis. Eurotune have AdBlue solutions starting from just $395+GST. EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION – (EGR)

Stringent emission targets set by the EU and other Governmental bodies have forced vehicle manufactures to develop new methods of improving the emissions of a vehicle. One such development is the EGR system which whilst it does reduce the emissions of the vehicle, there are some compromises regarding engine efficiency and reliability.

By recirculating exhaust gasses back into the combustion chamber during low engine loads (typically from idle to half throttle) the valve opens and some of the already burned exhaust gases are sent back to the intake to get mixed with fresh air and are combusted for a second time. The combustion temperatures are reduced which in turn reduces the NOx (Nitrogen Oxide) emissions. Failure often occurs when the dirty exhaust gasses clog up the valve causing it to stick in the open position, when this happens the engine is starved of oxygen and becomes sluggish and inefficient, in some cases the vehicle can become almost undriveable. The EGR valves can also fail electronically when the internal motor or position sensors fail. Over time the wet burned gases layer themselves on the hot intake ports of the head and build up to significantly block the ports and reduce the engines ability to breathe.

We have a range of EGR solutions starting from just $395+GST to enable:

  • Better Fuel Efficiency
  • Improved Throttle Response
  • Fewer Flat Spots
  • Cleaner Intake System and Engine
  • Reduced Maintenance Costs

DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER – DPF

The DPF looks similar to a traditional exhaust muffler, but is mounted close to the engine. By forcing the exhaust gases through the walls between the channels of the DPF, the particulate matter is deposited on the walls, so reducing the amount of air pollution.

A DPF has a design life of around 140,000 km, but this can be subject to large variation depending on vehicle use and engine condition. Every time the ECU forces a regeneration cycle it burns the particulate matter down to a much smaller amount of finer soot, they don’t get completely removed from the filter. Over time, the fine soot content builds up to a point where a regeneration cycle is no longer able to be performed; at this point the filter either needs emptying or replacing.

The the most common reasons a DPF will fail are highlighted below:

  • High km’s and compacted with fine soot.
  • Failed sensors preventing DPF regeneration.
  • Leaking injectors, valve stem oil seals, worn piston rings.
  • DPF unable to regenerate due to mainly slow short trips i.e. City running only.
  • Poor performance tuning (too rich)

There is only so many times a DPF can regenerate before the compacted soot reaches a critical saturation level at which point DPF removal or replacement is imminent. Eurotune have DPF solutions starting from just $395+GST . Call us today.
